Blacksmith Fundamentals

Join us for a five (5) part basic forging technique series.  This course is designed for beginning to intermediate smiths wishing to learn or improve basic forging techniques. Students learn the essentials of fire building, hammering, drawing out, upsetting, punching, chiseling, and efficient ways of working with a hammer and anvil. Each week students will have a project to take home.

 

Classes meet on Wednesday evenings for 5 weeks, from 6pm to 9pm. (Classes are consecutive unless otherwise noted)

Students are exposed to hot steel emitting sparks while hammered.  Please wear protective clothing to cover your arms and legs.  Closed-toed shoes are required.  Gloves and safety glasses are provided

  • Students ages 14-17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian also enrolled in the class.
  • No Person under the age of 14 is allowed on the premise during class times. 
  • There is a maximum of 6 people per class.
