One-on-One Sewing Instruction
If you are interested in having one-on-one sewing instruction or have little ones interested in learning sewing, Craft Central offers private sewing sessions. Lessons range from beginner to advanced, and may also include step-by-step instruction for completing a specific project.
Lessons are $20 an hour, with a minimum of 2-hour sessions at a time, and maximum of 4 hours at a time. You may schedule groups up to 4 people, however, everyone must be working on the same project.
As with our regular classes, we encourage you to bring in your own machine if you have one or have access to one. If you do not have your own sewing machine, we have some in-house that you may work from. If you are unsure of the state of your machine, you can bring it in for our instructor to take a look and give you information on where to take it for maintenance or cleaning.
Children ages 8-12 MUST take private lessons. This way, they are guaranteed hands-on instruction which is easier for them to understand. They can be signed up for classes with friends or siblings, in groups no larger than 3, and they will all work on the same project. Ages 6-7 may also participate in private lessons, but a parent MUST be in attendance to aid them in using the machine.
Availability for Sewing:

If you are unsure what project you would like to do, we have suggestions at various levels. Do not feel you are limited to these, as sewing has unlimited possibilities!
Beginner (Little to no experience)
- Pillows-Knot bags or a small handled bag
- Shoulder and messenger bags
- Simple backpack with a drawstring
- Basic apron
- Basic skirt, circle or panel
- Basic T-shirt
Intermediate (Some to little experience)
Please note, these may take at least two to three sessions, roughly 2-3 hours a piece.
- Following Basic and Simple commercial clothing patterns
IE: Shirts, dresses, skirts, jackets, pants, etc. (must be approved by an instructor)
- Making a pattern from a pre-existing clothing item and sewing a replica
- Stuffed animals (patterns provided by the instructor)
- Blankets, tack blankets, or magic binding blankets
Extensive Large Projects (Beginner, intermediate, and advanced. You do not need the experience to work on a specific project)
These are specialized projects, IE: Costumes, drapery, suits, formal wear, etc. For these projects, discussion with an instructor must occur ahead of time, whether in a previous session, via phone call, or in an email. Students are responsible for all of their fabric and notions, but a list from the instructor will be provided. Sessions are scheduled successively, usually in recurring days of the week at the same time, or at the student’s convenience. The project can be stored on-site until completion. A general timeline for completion is given, but is simply a prediction and not exact. Students should plan accordingly.
